Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how OnScale (“OnScale,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the OnScale iOS app and this website. We designed OnScale as an educational tracking tool. We do not sell your personal information.
Looking for product help? See the Support FAQ.
1.Introduction
OnScale helps combat-sport athletes log weight, nutrition, hydration, workouts, and related check-ins. This policy covers information processed through the App and our public support, terms, and privacy pages.
Depending on how you use OnScale, some data stays on your device, and some is stored on our servers when you sign in and cloud sync is enabled. Local-only use is described in Section 4.
By using OnScale, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms of Use.
2.Information We Collect
We collect information you provide and information generated when you use the App:
- Account information: username, email address, and password (stored in hashed form). We do not receive your App Store payment card details.
- Profile and body metrics: information you choose to enter, such as body weight, weigh-in goals, and similar profile fields.
- Health and training logs: food and drink entries (including macros), hydration logs, workouts, daily check-ins, and related notes or timestamps you save.
- Photos and barcode scans: images you capture or select for meal, drink, or barcode scanning, and the estimates or database matches produced from those scans.
- Device and session data: app version, device type, operating system, approximate diagnostics needed to operate and troubleshoot the App, and authentication/session identifiers.
Payment information. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not collect full payment card numbers in the App. We may receive limited subscription status from Apple (for example, whether Premium is active) so we can unlock features.
This website. If you only visit onscale.app (or the URL where this site is hosted) to read Support, Terms, or Privacy, we do not require an account. Standard hosting and analytics logs, if any, may include IP address and browser type as processed by our site host.
3.How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App, including dashboards, history, and goal tracking
- Authenticate you, sync data across devices when cloud sync is on, and restore data when you sign back in
- Generate nutrition estimates when you choose to use photo or barcode scan features
- Process Premium entitlements and promo-code redemptions
- Respond to support requests and communicate about the App (for example, material policy updates)
- Protect security, prevent abuse, and comply with law
We do not use your health logs for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information. We do not show third-party ads against your weight, food, hydration, or workout history.
4.Data Storage & Cloud Sync
On device. Account and health logs are stored on your device so you can use the App during training and weigh-ins.
Cloud sync when signed in. If you create an account and cloud sync is enabled, we store your account and synced logs on secure servers so you can restore data on a new device and keep data consistent across sessions.
Local-only mode. If cloud services are not configured in your build of the App, logging remains on device. In that mode we do not sync your logs to our servers.
Sign-out. Signing out does not delete your data. If cloud sync is on, signing back in with the same account restores synced data.
Account deletion. Using Delete Account in Profile & Settings removes your cloud data (when sync is enabled) and local data on that device, subject to the retention limits in Section 9.
5.Camera & Photos
OnScale requests camera or photo-library access only for barcode scanning and meal or drink photo scans. We use the system camera and the system photo picker. We do not need access to your entire library to operate manual logging.
You choose when to capture or select an image. You can deny camera permission in iOS Settings; manual logging and database search will still work.
Scan photos are processed to produce estimates or lookups. When you use AI scan features, image content may be sent to our AI provider as described in Sections 6 and 7. Do not scan photos of other people without their permission, and do not upload images you are not allowed to use.
6.Third-Party Services
We use service providers to operate OnScale. They process information only as needed to provide their services to us, subject to their own terms and policies:
- Cloud database provider — account authentication, session management, and optional cloud sync of your logs
- OpenAI — automated analysis of meal or drink photos when you use those scan features
- USDA FoodData Central — public nutrition reference data for foods you look up or match
- Open Food Facts — public packaged-food and barcode data
- Apple — App Store distribution, in-app purchases, and on-device system services (camera, photo picker)
- Website hosting (for example, Vercel) — serving this marketing and legal site
We do not sell personal information to these providers. They are not given your data to market their own products to you through OnScale.
7.AI & Automated Analysis
When you use meal or drink photo scan, we send the image (and limited context needed to generate an estimate) to OpenAI so the App can suggest nutrition values. You then review and edit the result before it is saved to your log.
Barcode lookups use nutrition databases (USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts) rather than generating a meal from a photo. Database records can still be incomplete; you should confirm the match.
If you log food and drinks manually, we do not send those entries to OpenAI for scan analysis. You can use OnScale without AI features.
Automated outputs are estimates. They are not medical advice and should not be relied on as the sole basis for dietary or weight-cut decisions.
8.Data Sharing
We share information only in these situations:
- Service providers that process data on our instructions (Section 6)
- When you direct us to (for example, emailing support@onscale.app about your account)
- To comply with law, legal process, or governmental requests, or to protect rights, safety, and security
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will take reasonable steps to require the recipient to honor this Policy
Other OnScale users cannot view your logs. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information for third-party advertising.
9.Data Retention
We retain account and synced logs for as long as your account is active. If you use local-only mode, data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App (uninstalling may remove local data).
If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify cloud data associated with that account and remove local App data on the device where you confirm deletion, unless we must keep limited information to comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms, or maintain security logs.
Scan images processed by third-party AI providers may be retained by those providers according to their policies and our contractual settings. We configure those services to use your content to provide the feature, not to sell your personal information.
Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterward for service quality and legal compliance.
10.Your Choices & Rights
You can:
- Edit or delete individual logs in the App
- Use manual logging instead of camera or AI scan features
- Turn off camera access in iOS Settings
- Sign out without deleting data
- Delete your account in Profile & Settings
- Manage or cancel Premium in Apple Settings → Subscriptions
- Email support@onscale.app to request access, correction, or deletion of personal information we hold, or to ask questions about this Policy
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (for example, to know, delete, or correct personal information, or to appeal a denial). We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights. California-specific notices are in Section 14.
11.Children’s Privacy
OnScale is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact support@onscale.app. We will take steps to delete the information.
Users under 18 should use OnScale only with a parent or guardian’s consent, as described in the Terms of Use.
12.Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls on cloud systems, and hashing of passwords.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You can help by choosing a strong unique password, not sharing your credentials, and keeping iOS up to date.
13.International Users
OnScale is operated from the United States. If you use the App from another country, your information may be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
By using OnScale, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States as needed to provide the service. If you do not want your information processed in the U.S., do not use cloud sync or the App.
14.California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, provides rights regarding personal information. In the past 12 months we may have collected the categories described in Section 2, including identifiers (such as email), account and profile information, health-related logs you enter, photos you submit for scans, and device/session information.
We collect this information for the business purposes in Section 3. We do not sell personal information and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (such as health-related logs you enter) for purposes other than providing the App, with your permission, or as otherwise permitted by law.
You may request to know, access, correct, or delete personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing (which we do not engage in). You may also limit use of sensitive personal information to what is necessary to provide the App. To exercise rights, email support@onscale.app. We will verify your request and respond as required by law. You may use an authorized agent as permitted by California law.
We will not deny goods or services, charge a different price, or provide a different quality of service for exercising CCPA/CPRA rights, except as permitted by law.
15.Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows the effective date of the current version. For material changes, we will provide notice in the App, on this site, or by email when reasonably practicable.
Continued use of OnScale after an update means you accept the revised Policy. If you do not agree, stop using the App and delete your account.
